Update: it does not depend on the theme. For some reason if I close gnome-theme-manager the application is still present in ps -x output. And if I restart the application I have multiple instances running, Maybe this is the cause of the problem. -- gnome-theme-manager hangs selecting glossy

Update: another user with a fresh gnome environment does not suffer the same problem. I think something of my .gnome* settings are messed up (though I didn't do anything special). I copied my home directory from a edgy installation on my old notebook. The other thing I noticed is that the theme
