Daniel: I'm new to all this. Are you wanting me to file a new alsa-base bug? Also, I suspect my problem is not alsa related; I was able to get my sound to work in Karmic by changing Sound-Preferences-Output-Connector to Analog Headphones (from Analog output) - giving me sound in both the speakers
