No, I clicked once per page. This way:
1st page: one click, scanned did scan the page;
2nd page: one click, scanner failed and hanged up. Needed to cut off the
scanner power (unplug it from outlet) to do it again (powering off was
impossible due to some problem between simple-scan and HP

Just to clarify: not only simple-scan hangs, but the whole machine hangs
and needs to be fore-rebooted? And with xsane (I assume you mean
*x*sane) you can scan without problems?

Scanner hanged up alone (PC keeps running fine) and it had to be yanked
from the power outlet each time (on/off button doesn't work in those six
times).
And yes, it was xsane. :)

does your scanner have an automatic document feeder (adf)? if so, do you
use it or do you scan one page at a time?

There's no ADF. It's an All-In-One device. Specs:

Also I used an option for single page at simple-scan. Probably this
option has been ignored
