I don't know if this can help, but in my case, using the Feisty x86
live CD (as opposed to x64, both downloaded this morning), the x server
does launch properly, but the display is extremely slow and it ends up
freezing after a while.

Hi since I sent in that bug I did a reinstall again.
Was having an iffy time rebooting got another error report at boot up I
tried
to report it on launchpad but gave up after half an hour of trying.
After the last set of updates my computer boots up most of the time but it's
learned some new
~/cookies.txt is a symlink to my Firefox cookies.txt.

The output of ps is the same with ou whithout max_cstate option.
For example the boot process is 3 ou 4 times slower without max_cstate.

I have Asus A6L (A6B00L) laptop, it has a special hardware button to
turn the touchpad (synaptic) on or off. In previous versions of Ubuntu
(6.10 and 7.04 Alpha Herd 5) To make it work, I added to the touchpad

I Used for testing 3 images
the first one:

than I tried with 6.10 and 6.06
I thought that it could be a problem with my machine, but OsX runs ok,
and gentoo Linux runs and install ok !
But .. I
