I am connecting from a Jaunty computer to another computer running
Jaunty, using ssh X11 forwarding.
When I try to open any application such as gedit, I get the following
error over and over again:
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration
I can confirm this issue also occurs on a new installation of Jaunty
with cGmail 0.5 installed.
Installation of python 2.5 (the python2.5 package) and changing cGmail
to use python2.5 - by changing the first line of the /usr/bin/cgmail and
/usr/bin/cgmailservice scripts allows cGmail to start.
I'm getting a similar thing here. It's mostly black rectangles randomly
showing up, sometimes on the page I'm viewing, but sometimes replacing
the status bar or other window elements as well.
I tried to make screenshots several times, but hitting the print button
always makes the artifacts go

Using kernel 2.6.30-rc2 I was able to re-create the X freeze but also I found
that X will not run normally even using the default EXA acceleration. The
screen freezes, I switch to tty1 then back to tty7, it runs a few more seconds,

I've been hanging out in #ubuntu a bit since the Jaunty release, and
this is something that many users are requesting -- users coming from
Windows want their mice to work as they did in Windows... adding this
feature in some way would be very nice.

Could we get an update on this? I'm not sure I want to see these
tooltips stick over my windows until the next Ubuntu release. The
workspace switcher applet could at least be patched to completely remove
these tooltips (should be quite easy AFAICT) until a solution is found
in Compiz.

I am having this same issue. Only I thought it was due to switching
while having some apps open during the switch (pidgin and firefox)
because during switch with apps open I got some odd errors. I know, newb
move to just have some odd errors without anything specific. I figured
switching back

Incredible: You're fully right. Removing my
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/custom_wacom.fdi, that I created for use under 8.10,
solved the problem for now. Interestingly the same configuration file
worked previously fine under jaunty; only after the update on Apr 24

I now also have a working custom configuration, attached are the old
.fdi (which induced the crash) and the new one which works. Note that
the settings are not identical, however.
The tablet support is now actually much better now then in 8.10: Pen,
Scrollarea and Erase work like a charm. Great!

I seem to have the same problem. I had sound on Intrepid, then
reinstalled Jaunty and no sound at all (not even on the live CD).
What I figured out is:
If I go to Preferences - Sound, then change from autodetect to one specific

Was hoping this was just a jaunty beta bug, but I upgraded to the full
version of jaunty and this still occours.
Still no closer to find a way of solving it. Maybe it would help if I
attached a video?

Like Eckhard I've upgraded to Jaunty (actually via an install of
prerelease version and subsequent updates) and can confirm that CDs work
fine. I can't speak for DVDs since I don't burn these.
The conclusion is that anyone having problems with Brasero/Intrepid
should upgrade to Jaunty.
