[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server - Hadoop
Blueprint changed by James Page: Whiteboard changed: Status 20122501 Dev packages avaliable for hadoop, hive, pig and hbase in http://launchpad.net/~hadoop-ubuntu/+archive/dev sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hadoop-ubuntu/dev Target versions of Hadoop components: hadoop-0.20.205.0 hcatalog-0.2.0 pig-0.9.0 hbase-0.90.4 hive-0.7.1 # the script I got from Hortonworks labels this as hive-0.7.1+ which includes fixes to hive. - Yes - we might need to look at that - we should be able to overlay the fixes if need be without rebuilding the entire project zookeeper-3.3.2 Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari assumptions? A: No idea - one to ask Matt Package naming: hadoop hcatalog pig hbase hive Needs confirmation (conflicts with archive): zookeeper Assumptions: Packaging will use bigtop as a base. - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju charms as and when they support precise. Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process. Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process. Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we create. Patches may be required for native build components. Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be applied where appropriate. --- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default). Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ... Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g. ./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar? A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just re-use these jars etc... Challenges: hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches) JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth re-using. java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu (generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro). Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration option to secure a cluster. Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If so, I can do the charm work.j Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts. MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must. Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow (maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution). hcatalog: External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql? No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to produce release tarbal. [Bug 912066] Re: /etc/fstab contains incorrect device for swap partition when no ephemeral disk present.
This is a nova bug all right, supplies the incorrect device name in the ec2 metadata. [Bug 922650] Re: Lucid needs the fix for PHP Bug #33210
This was released in v5.3.3 upstream, so Fix Released on the main bug task. Its worth backporting to Lucid, as workarounds and detecting which JPEGs seem difficult and haphazard at best. Mark, we are *very* far behind on stable release updates for lucid. If you could add the requisite SRU justification to the bug description, as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates Then that will help get this into lucid-proposed faster. Also if you attach a debdiff with the patch added to the package, and subscribe the 'ubuntu-sponsors' team to this bug, it should get looked at relatively quickly. [Bug 922646] Re: precise alternate LVM failed to install: no root file system
OK. There are multiple problems here. 1) parted has stopped probing DM devices that aren't DM-RAID. partman-base needs it to support this. 2) partman parses the output of 'multipath -l' to decide whether a device is a multipath device. Foolishly, multipath prints errors to standard output, such as a complaint about dm-multipath not being loaded. 3) dmraid-udeb depends on multipath-udeb for kpartx. There is no kpartx-udeb. For 1), I'm going to restore this support; it's part of parted's interface now and shouldn't be broken. For 2), mostly we avoid this because we only ever install multipath-udeb in code that modprobes dm-multipath, but dmraid-udeb just broke this assumption. Fixing this properly seems fiddly, not least because I can't test that I haven't broken multipath in the process, so I'm inclined to just restore this assumption by creating kpartx-udeb and having dmraid-udeb depend on that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to multipath-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922646 Title: precise alternate LVM failed to install: no root file system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid/+bug/922646/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 921397] Re: Speaker audio channel goes mute after plugging in the headphone
Actually a slightly better workaround would be to open /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-headphones.conf And change: [Element Speaker] switch = off to [Element Speaker] switch = mute ...that way the port will switch, which means you can have different volumes for speaker and headphones, but Speaker playback switch will not mute when headphones is selected. Re: [Bug 922162] Re: pdf output file is 6 times bigger than if created by simple-scan
Le 26/01/2012 17:36, Jeffrey Ratcliffe a écrit : This depends heavily on the compression options you chose when saving the PDF, and whether you embedded OCR output. Please start with gscan2pdf --log=log save a PDF, close gscan2pdf, and post the log file. Thank you for your quick answer. In my scanning options I use neither ocr output nor file cleaning (I use a french user interface, it might be scan cleaning instead of file cleaning) You will find as attached files: 1. the log output (log_gscan.txt) 2. the file as output by gscan2pdf (test_gscan2pdf_1_500-12.pdf) : 500 means white threshold=0.500 and 12 black threshold=0.12 3. the file as output by simple-scan (test_simplescan_1.pdf You will notice that, in additionto the file size problem, the quality of the output file is much better with simple-scan. When the same document sheet is scanned with the default threshold values (white=0.005 and black=0.12) the file size goes down to 317,2 kb, which is still 4 times the size of simple-scan, with no visible quality improvement. ** Attachment added: log_gscan.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922162/+attachment/2696141/+files/log_gscan.txt ** Attachment added: test_gscan2pdf_1_500-12.pdf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922162/+attachment/2696142/+files/test_gscan2pdf_1_500-12.pdf ** Attachment added: test_simplescan_1.pdf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922162/+attachment/2696143/+files/test_simplescan_1.pdf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922162 Title: pdf output file is 6 times bigger than if created by simple-scan To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gscan2pdf/+bug/922162/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
