[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid

[Bug 922645] Re: ubuntu template should fail on error
Actually the extra changes weren't as crucial as I'd thought, but the one part was badly behaving when config was not yet written (as it might not if lxc-ubuntu exits early), so it's nice to have. The new version (correctly) exits with 1 and cleans up when i mess up networking for the container so that it can't install lxcguest. There are a couple of commits in the upstream 3.0.18 kernel which might fix this. [Bug 922986] Re: Installer crashed
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck! [This is an automated message. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/922979/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 852554] Re: Poor video playback performance with radeon driver and compositing
It looks like Michal was correct in comment #7. One thing that might improve the performance of the open-source radeon drivers slightly in the latest upstream 3.0.18 kernel is this patch: commit a674b8b3e345496a96aec389446650455b2fdfa1 Author: Alex Deucher Date: Tue Jan 3 09:48:38 2012 -0500 drm/radeon/kms: disable writeback on pre-R300 asics commit 28eebb703e28bc455ba704adb1026f76649b768c upstream. [Bug 922578] Re: please remove 'resolvconf' from ubuntu-minimal Depends
Martin-Éric wrote: I just noticed another issue with this: until now, the /etc/resolv.conf generated by network-manager would contain both domain and search stanzas. Now, it only contains search. Steve wrote: I have noticed this as well, but I haven't been able to determine that this makes a difference functionally. If you know of one, let us know and I'll look at getting resolvconf fixed. resolv.conf(5) says: The domain and search keywords are mutually exclusive. If more than one instance of these keywords is present, the last instance wins. Because search is more versatile than domain, resolvconf only writes a search line, not a domain line.Any domain information supplied to resolvconf is included on the search line. Resolvconf, with thousands of popcon-reported instances installed, has worked this way for many years without anyone reporting a functional problem. If there is a third-party tool out there that reads resolv.conf and treats domain specially then we'll have to look into that. -- Thomas -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922578 Title: please remove 'resolvconf' from ubuntu-minimal Depends To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/922578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with fglrx
** Description changed: [Impact] - fill me in with explanation of severity and frequency of bug on users and justification for backporting the fix to the stable release + The user's display only redraws at 20-30Hz (1/3-1/2 of the correct monitor refresh rate). Making a highly unpleasant graphics experience. [Development Fix] - fill me in with an explanation of how the bug has been addressed in the development branch, including the relevant version numbers of packages modified in order to implement the fix. + Simplified the way the compiz opengl plugin does vsync, using fewer functions and simpler code. This works around the slow functions in the fglrx driver which are the root cause. [Stable Fix] - fill me in by pointing out a minimal patch applicable to the stable version of the package. + As above. - [Text Case] + [Test Case] Make sure Sync To VBlank is enabled in the OpenGL section of CompizConfig Settings Manager. In Ubuntu 11.04 it is enabled by default. - fglrx: Drag some windows around. Also open and close windows. The - animations will not be smooth as they appear to stutter. The framerate - is only around 20-30Hz. - - intel and possibly any driver: Press WinKey+S or WinKey+W rapidly to - trigger the expo/workspace animations. These are full-screen animations. - But are they silky-smooth? + Drag some windows around. Also open and close windows. The animations + will not be smooth as they appear to stutter. The framerate is only + around 20-30Hz. Now turn Sync To VBlank off and repeat the above steps again. If you notice the animations are much smoother than with Sync To VBlank on then you are suffering from this bug. [Regression Potential] - fill me in with a discussion of likelihood and potential severity of regressions and how users could get inadvertently affected. + Low. + Worst case: Video tearing occurs. However this is unlikely given the fix has been in everyday use by many users of ppa:vanvugt/compiz for many months already. [Original Report] This bug is primarily for users of the fglrx driver, but the proposed fix does improve performance with other drivers. Most NVIDIA users should look at bug 92599 instead. Package: fglrx Version: 2:8.840-0ubuntu2 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Juniper [Radeon HD 5700 Series] I have ATI's 5770 with fglrx. Having Sync to Vblank on makes Unity and many Compiz features (Enhanced Zoom, Scale etc.) really slow. Turning Sync to Vblank off has a huge effect on desktop, responsiveness is much, much better. Turning tearing off/on from amdccle doesn't seem to have any effect on responsiveness. In Maverick Sync to Vblank was off by default, in Natty it's on. This will probably have a huge impact on many fglrx users. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763005 Title: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with fglrx To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/763005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 27541] Re: Disable Touchpad while typing doesn't work consistently - hardware-specific?
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 240738 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Few days ago a received an information, that I'm not able to find now, that the problem could be caused by the AC adapter in use with certain laptops and it was suggested to try working only with internal battery (AC adapter disconnected). I did several tests and I verified that for my Acer Aspire 8530 it's true! In other words, if I encounter touch-pad crazy problems, I disconnect the AC adapter and the touch-pad works fine. It could be interesting if other laptop users do similar tests. I add also the information that, after a recent automatic update of my Ubuntu 10.10, I am facing problems with the wifi connection and that such problems seem to disappear if I disconnect the AC adapter. [Bug 764330] Re: [regression] Moving windows lags behind the mouse by 1-2 seconds; appear to freeze when dragging.
** Description changed: [Impact] - fill me in with explanation of severity and frequency of bug on users and justification for backporting the fix to the stable release + Windows don't move when dragged with the mouse, except intermittently. Very poor user experience. [Development Fix] - fill me in with an explanation of how the bug has been addressed in the development branch, including the relevant version numbers of packages modified in order to implement the fix. + Deleted a temporary workaround for an old bug in the move plugin, which itself was buggy. It was causing the move plugin to unexpectedly revert from the default lazy asynchronous mode (fast) to a blocking synchronous mode, which is simply too slow to keep up with the mouse on some machines. [Stable Fix] - fill me in by pointing out a minimal patch applicable to the stable version of the package. + As above. - [Text Case] - fill me in with detailed *instructions* on how to reproduce the bug. This will be used by people later on to verify the updated package fixes the problem. - 1. - 2. - 3. - Broken Behavior: - Fixed Behavior: + [Test Case] + Drag windows around rapidly using the mouse. + Broken Behaviour: Windows don't move, except maybe once every 1-2 seconds. + Fixed Behaviour: Windows move smoothly and keep up with the mouse. + If you can't reproduce the bug then try using a very slow or old machine. I used an N270 based Atom netbook. [Regression Potential] - fill me in with a discussion of likelihood and potential severity of regressions and how users could get inadvertently affected. + Low. The fix has been in every-day use by many users of ppa:vanvugt/compiz for a while. [Original Report] I have fast machine( 4gb of ram, amd64 x4, nvidia 460 ), using proprietary nvidia driver. Natty b2 x64, updated yesterday. Windows move very slow, but only by mouse. Windows moving fast by Put plugin. lasy_positioning is enabled. Disabling wobbly windows and switching window decorator not helping. video: http://images.rock.su/bugs/move.ogv When video is recording, windows moves much faster. Maybe problem with screen redraw. If you need, i can record video by camera, windows moving unreal slow when video not recording. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764330 Title: [regression] Moving windows lags behind the mouse by 1-2 seconds; appear to freeze when dragging. [Bug 923003] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [Xorg:970]
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released. If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging. Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Tags added: kernel-request-3.2.0-12.20 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923003 Title: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [Bug 922578] Re: please remove 'resolvconf' from ubuntu-minimal Depends
Speeding up DNS search did not require adding resolvconf to ubuntu-minimal. Instead, enabling dhclient's option to always prepend 127.0.0.1 to /etc/resolv.conf does the trick quite nicely. If you only have one interface configurer (e.g., dhclient) then there is no problem having that configurer control /etc/resolv.conf. If you have only one interface configurer and you always have a caching nameserver then /etc/resolv.conf can statically contain 127.0.0.1 and the interface configurer can convey its nameserver addresses to the caching nameserver. (If the caching nameserver is dnsmasq, one way to convey the information is to write the addresses to /etc/resolv.conf and dnsmasq will read them from there.) Resolvconf doesn't offer any benefits under these circumstances. (Nor should it bring disbenefits.) Resolvconf is only really beneficial when the system has multiple interface configurers. Then it, or something like it, is needed in order to keep track of which addresses and search paths come from where. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922578 Title: please remove 'resolvconf' from ubuntu-minimal Depends To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/922578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.
Michael, to find the cause of high CPU usage you need a profiler, not a debugger. Most profilers need special code compiled in to your application, but Valgrind has a plugin Callgrind that works with any existing binary (as do all valgrind plugins): http://valgrind.org/docs/manual/cl-manual.html Callgrind will give you nice sorted lists of the functions using the highest CPU. It is not for beginners though. Maybe later I will write a HOWTO on profiling compiz with callgrind so more people can give it a go and provide some nice rich data on compiz performance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/888039 Title: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.
