I never had this problem with the white strip across the pie chart since i use:
Ubuntu Maverick (10.10) with
BOINC 6.10.58.
Only the colors are sometimes real strange 'bleached' and look very
similar...

unity-specific unity does not function on a dual-video-chip laptop.
It may be kernel-specific - 3.2.0.5 does it sometimes, 3.2.0.6 does it every
boot without Failure (or more precisely, with near 100% failure within

Of course. My intentions were not to discuss about a bug in Gnome Shell,
but it's compositor and compiz had similar problems. Now a solution has
been found for Gnome Shell's compositor and since it is open source I
hope this helps for compiz too.

I was going crazy about what I thought to be a firefox bug:
For some reason firefox tries to connect to pulseaudio whenever a menu opens
(context, searchbar, main menu). Due to the above mentioned bug I experienced
short system stalls.
I could fix those firefox issues by symlinking ~/.pulse to
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Sorry about my misunderstanding:) OK, version 0.4.4 fixes the problem, but
where is it? I don't have it in my system, neither package search don't show
this version.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. This is due to User Agent sniffing on
the website. If I set my User Agent to Internet Explorer 8, I get the regular
site. This seems to be caused by the user agent change that caused bug 897794
as well.
