This is a nova bug all right, supplies the incorrect device name in the
ec2 metadata.
Nova supplies the following:
'block-device-mapping': {'ami': 'vda',

When it should supply this:
I should mention, I believe the fix is for nova to ask for the device to
be attached at /dev/vdb when there is no ephemeral disk.

/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-headphones.conf

is causing the problem in both cases. I some way good, it seems to
happen on Intel and AMD CPUs which at least would rule out specific virt

From my tests, it seems that the keys for which the bug occurs are keys
for which Ubuntu sets a different default from upstream (show files on
the desktop, default font, default GTK theme etc...). So I guess Ubuntu
changed the default value, but, somehow, the upstream default value
still appears

Getting this error most of the times:
linuxdcpp: ../../src/xcb_io.c:140: dequeue_pending_request: Assertion
`req == dpy-xcb-pending_requests' failed.
Using Ubuntu 11.04 version and linuxdcpp 1.0.3 or core version 0.698.

Gabriel, I will try what you suggested. By the way, I have been using Ubuntu
Studio 11.10 and ever since this problem started, I switched to Banshee in
order to listen to music. In prior Ubuntu Studio releases (11.04 and older) I
didn't have this problem.
I already tried the update option

Gwibber does not allow me to authorize over this SSL link, only plain http
(which is insecure).
Note that this affects both the stable Ubuntu releases as the upcoming
precise release.
