I just tested gnome-shell and returned to unity2d, I found just 2
workspaces. Thanks for mentioning /apps/metacity/general/num_workspaces

I just tested it on Ubunut 8.10 beta in VirtualBox. dmesg recognized the
camera, but either Ekiga or Skype doesn't work. Skype at least shows
green noise.

And I found another thing: It depends in which front USB I plug it. It
even gives different dmesg output. One shows the green noise in Skype,
the other doesn't work at all.

As I said in summary, XvMC stopped to work. Mplayer just freeze and
shows only black window. kill -9 must be use to stop it. I used

used my USB adaptor on many PCs (but always paired only with my phone),

Confirmed, it works! Neverball, Audacious  Frozen Bubble together
without crackling. But PCM channel in alsamixer now doesn't work, I can
use Front channel for volume changes, but I can hear sound even if it's
set to 0. But mute works.

The above code looks like fix, but I'm not sure.
And there are the required screenshots of keyboard layouts. Problem is with the 
key above Enter/Return key. But those scrrenshots looks OK.
