The apparent culprit is /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-hinting-slight.conf from
the binary package fontconfig-config (source package fontconfig);
Firefox uses the settings from this file instead of using the desktop's
settings. Removing that file brings back the correct behavior (hinting
matches desktop).

more general problem: trying to select a very large SVG as the contents
of a File form field (e.g. Gmail

controls only the Master track, but on laptops this usually does not
change the haedphone volume level. The correct default would to control
both Master and Headphone if the card has a Headphone channel,

I can still open Word templates from Nautilus after I manually remove
those entries. If you remove those lines from openoffice.org-common.xml,
Nautilus will be fine, because it's the .desktop files that say to
Nautilus what a given application can open.

NO!!! The offending entry is for application/msword - NOT for
application/msword-template! I can open Word templates just fine in OO.o
and they have the correct description. The only thing that needs
changing is OpenOffice's broken MIME package which changes the
description for application/msword
Can't we just remove the application/msword definition from the
OO.o-supplied file altogether? The only thing it causes is an incorrect
description - it doesn't do anything else. The shared-mime-info problem
can be fixed later.

I have the same problem with HP TC1100 and can give some additional information.
1. This is caused by the update from Hardy to Intrepid, kernel 2.6.27-8-generic
2. /sys/power/pm_test succeeds up to core
3. The computer hibernates fine but doesn't come back. I debugged the boot
