Yes please file a new report. Update-manager uses synaptic as a fall
back option when aptdaemon is not available. Apparently the issue is

No you dont have to wait. You can install 11.10 now and when 12.04
becomes stable in April, upgrade to that. If you are planning to
upgrade though, try and leave the system as 'default' as you can.
Installing custom PPA's can also cause problems for an upgrade.

What I find odd it that your getting a duplicate error in the sources
file. That should definitely not be the case with a fresh install. Had
you release upgraded that machine in the past?

Well now, if you like, we can clear out the old logs and try a do-
release-upgrade again. If it fails you can attach the new logs. I just
wanted to get rid of the 'No candidate ver:' errors and they look like
they are gone.

Well you should not get those errors with a fresh install. Is it a fresh
install or an image from an already installed system?

Well it seems to be a local error. I have just finished installing a fresh
10.04 and updated to 12.04 without issue. I would suggest opening a thread in
the 'Answers' part of launchpad, askubuntu.com, or the ubuntu forums. They may

Lets get a fresh log to see whats happening at this point.
1) sudo rm -r /var/log/dist-upgrade/*
2) Try another upgrade to 11.10. When it fails, attach the above directory
here.

Comment out these 2 lines so it looks like this:
##deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise main restricted
##deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise main restricted
They are near the top of the file.
Then run a 'sudo apt-get update' again.

Sorry, I misread those lines and confused them with 'precise-updates
main'. Uncomment them and save the file again. I actually don't see
the duplicate in that source file. Attach the directory:
/etc/apt/sources.list.d

I do see a duplicate in that file.
You can remove the whole thing.
1) sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/prerequists-sources.list
2) sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-
updates_main_binary-amd64_Packages
3) sudo apt-get update
