[Bug 600096] Re: No headphone jack output on T400s

2010-09-07 Thread William Bohn
Thanks alien8. Yeah, I was having that problem upstream. Things seem to
be working with the Ubuntu kernels, though.

I suppose it'd be helpful to attach the console output, and uname info:

[Bug 605735] Re: Wired networking does not work on Lenovo T400s (both dock and on system)

2010-07-21 Thread William Bohn
I've already tested this upsteam as stated in the original report, and
networking only gets worse (random disconnects from the wireless)
starting with versions released late June.

[Bug 600096] Re: No headphone jack output on T400s

2010-07-14 Thread William Bohn
I think this only affects me on the newer kernel. Using the older,
supported Lucid kernel seems to work, so I've marked this as invalid.

[Bug 605735] [NEW] Wired networking does not work on Lenovo T400s (both dock and on system)

2010-07-14 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

I've tried this also on upsteam kernel versions (using current version
as of 2010-07-09).

When plugging in a wired networking cable into my system directly or
through Lenovo's Advanced dock, the network connection will not be
established. I've tried the network connection on other machines, and it
works fine.

Wireless networking is fine, but not ideal, so I am currently using the
wireless networking.

[Bug 592636] Re: Lenovo T400s Resume from Suspend Does Not Work

2010-06-14 Thread William Bohn
Using:
Linux Will-Laptop 2.6.35-999-generic #20100653 SMP Fri Jun 11 10:56:15 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Attached is the dmesg output.

Also should be mentioned - that when I suspend using instructions from:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend
I get the following warning:
(process:369): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
and sometimes it hangs at this point and will not suspend. I have the dmesg
output of that as well if needed.

[Bug 592636] [NEW] Lenovo T400s Resume from Suspend Does Not Work

2010-06-11 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

I find this happens most of the time when the system has been suspended
for a longer period of time. For shorter periods of time, it seems that
the system is able to resume correctly upon opening the lid of the
T400s.

I know that it suspends correctly because the sleep/suspend indicator
light on the T400s is lit.

The Caps Lock light does not blink, but the power light does blink.

I have tried the steps here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend
The resulting dmesg.log is attached in an instance where resume did not recover
correctly.

[Bug 403854] Re: Karmic - No sound below 80% level as displayed on gnome-volume-control-applet

2009-08-07 Thread William Bohn
Was running 0605. I'm still getting the sound problems with bios version
0902. I get sound down to about 56% (-15.27.dB) - just barely audible,
meaning that with the combination of the pulseaudio updates and this
bios update, the sound range has improved, but still isn't really where
it ought to be.

Thanks for the BIOS pointer, though - I forgot all about updating the
BIOS despite staring at the POST screen every day.

[Bug 403609] [NEW] Karmic - Gnome volume keyboard shortcuts do not affect gnome-volume-control-applet

2009-07-23 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

On Asus EEE PC 1000HE running 9.10:

Keyboard shortcuts (XF86AudioMute, XF86AudioLowerVolume,
XF86AudioRaiseVolume keys) for controlling volume (through gnome-
keybinding-properties application) do not change the sound output at
all. The gnome-volume-control-applet shows no changes, but the GNOME
popup that appears when hitting the keys shows changes that are not
realized.

[Bug 403854] [NEW] Karmic - No sound below 80% level as displayed on gnome-volume-control-applet

2009-07-23 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

System info: Asus EEE PC 1000HE running Ubuntu 9.10 .

There is no sound when the gnome-volume-control-applet has its output
level set = 80% (-17.83 db). The volume level is raised very rapidly
from 80% to 100%.

The control should instead make use of the entire setting range.

[Bug 403859] [NEW] Karmic - sound level gets lowered when opening new sound files

2009-07-23 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

On Asus EEE PC 1000HE running 9.10.

Upon opening new sound files (*.mp3s in my case) with totem, the sound
level in gnome-volume-control-applet gets increasingly lowered,
sometimes from 100% to 0% despite just resetting the volume in gnome-
volume-control-applet .

If I leave the volume control in totem at 100%, there doesn't seem to be
any change in the volume in gnome-volume-control-applet. If I change the
volume control in totem to anything less than 100%, it lowers the
volume: if the totem volume control is set relatively high, the amount
the volume is decreased is significantly less than if the totem volume
control is set low.

The change in the volume occurs when opening a file (executing totem, in
my case).

I don't think this is a totem-specific issue, since I had this problem
with Audacious as well (before it was removed on a partial distribution
upgrade).

[Bug 401294] [NEW] Karmic - 2 Sound Applets, No Keyboard Shortcuts, Sound Resetting

2009-07-19 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

Asus EEE PC 1000HE running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic.

Recently, the volume has been able to be increased to audible levels -
this is good.

However, after a round of recent updates (the one that made the sound
audible) also made two GNOME sound applets appear, one of which being
gnome-volume-control-applet, and the other is mixer_applet2.

The problems are:

1. The sound keeps getting reset to lower levels while using Audacious
or other applications that use sound. It happens right after it moves to
the next song or a new sound-producing file is opened.

2. The GNOME Keyboard shortcuts for adjusting the sound seems to have no
effect on these mixers/ volume controls. I believe it's controlling a
different device, despite specifying preferences otherwise in the gnome-
volume-control-applet.

3. Two sound applets is confusing, and they seem to be competing with
each other.

[Bug 382821] Re: Volume very low under 9.10

2009-07-13 Thread William Bohn
I upgraded from Hardy on an Asus EEEPC 1000HE, and volume was fine at
that point.

Once I started using Karmic, I could barely hear anything at all. This
condition exists when using either headphones or speakers despite
everything being cranked to the max under the PulseAudio mixer and the
Alsa mixer.

And no, I'm not hard of hearing. ;)

[Bug 395903] [NEW] audacious consumes all available memory and CPU cycles

2009-07-05 Thread William Bohn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacious

I've had this problem on Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 current versions (1.5, and
2.0.1).

When I'm playing mp3s with Unicode tags (Japanese), occasionally
Audacious will decide that it will consume all available CPU cycles as
well as memory. This is a nightmare because I'm running this on a
netbook, and it's even hard to kill the thing with System Monitor (it's
easier if I have a console window open and do kill -9 SID).

I'm not sure what information will be needed, as a backtrace doesn't
really have anything too interesting (attached).
