I got a working work-around, just using standard Ubuntu stuff. Basically, this is reinstalling the legacy drivers, with workaround for bug 183818, and on my system with a recent kernel: 2.6.24-21. As not everyboby might know all commands, I'll lay out what I did: 1) install rt2500-source, using
