I don't think this is fixed in 12.04.
I have an asus G73Sw and when I tried the Live CD, headphones didn't work.
When I upgraded from 11.10 (where everthing was working fine) I could not get
it work by

Aha, you have the two volumes on the same DAC bug. It's fixed in 12.04.
