Mesa 7.6 has the new r600 DRI driver (with 3D hardware acceleration). AFAIK, this driver still needs special DRM kernel modules (from Alex Deucher's branch of DRM: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/drm/?h=r6xx- r7xx-3d ). If you want to test this out, try mesa 7.6 again and temporarily move the

In my case, installing fglrx 9.8 from the amd website (after uninstalling ubuntu fglrx driver in restricted driver manager) did the trick. Xorg no longer freeze when playing a video and it correctly resume from suspend. So this might be fixed in karmic or next release, once ubuntu will add latest
