Re: [libreoffice-users] Applying paragraph style to document

Hi Jean-Baptiste,

All fixed thank you. It was the manual formatting causing
the problem. Had been

experimenting on a couple of paragraphs to find a suitable style.

Kind regards,
Gordon.

The lowest level possible IS the default template. You may try do modify
the template on the install folder (search for Default.ott), but you'll
need administrator rights to do so. And, well, that's cheating: you'll be
changing the default template after all.

And you will probably find it gets changed back after your next update

The best way really is to create a new template, set your preferred page
size, margins, font and styles. Save it somewhere to use again after
your next LO update and you can keep your documents consistent.

P.S. Did you install the UK version, my default page after install is A4
but I don't like the margins or font so set my template as default.

   yes & no.

   Suggestions:

  (1) If you go to the Apple 'store', you should find that Pages is
one of the free programs you can download.

  (2) LO has a Mac version which I would think would open any Mac
document,

hopefully someone with more knowledge on this subject will
be getting back with you anon.

   Hoping this helps,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Opening Remote Files

2017-09-06 Thread anne-ology
maybe I can help here - after finally getting a Mac, I found that I
needed to keep a MsFt machine in order to have these computers
'communicate. ?';
I found that by using DropBox or Google's Drive I could swap
files but if I wanted to access something saved on an external HD, then
that HD had to first be made for the Mac [either (1) copy all files to a
Mac-compatible HD or (2) remove the files, make the HD Mac-compatible then
replace the files; then your files can be seen by these Mac programs]

   I'm assuming Win 8 will function as Win 7 ... ... ...
[well, I'm a researcher, historian - was able to maintain the
middle-ground between the computer nerd & the newbie, but that
middle-ground is harder & harder to maintain now]

   Hoping this helps,
maybe someone with more computer knowledge will be able to help
you further,

OX X 10.11.6 El Capitan

LO 5.3.6.1

I'm working with the first of multiple files that will be located on a
Windows 8.1 computer. That computer and my Mac are both hardwired to a
network.

LO seems to have an issue opening the document at the beginning of a work
session.

Start Windows 8.1.

Start OS X.

Wait until the Mac has recognized and connected to 8.1.

Start LO to the Start Center. The file I want is listed, but when I click
on it, I get the message the file does not exist. Even though I know it
does exist.

If I click on Open File, I can then navigate to the W8.1 computer, and
drill down to the folder where the file is and load it.

Even better, I have the folder that contains the file in the Finder's
Sidebar. Click on the folder, it opens and I can load the file I want.

Has anyone else seen this?

[libreoffice-users] Writer - changing page styles

2017-09-06 Thread Philip Jackson
Writer 5.1.6.2 64bit in UbuntuStudio 16.04 LTS
Writer 5.3.3.2 64bit in Windows 10

When I double-click on a different page style, the existing page style
remains unchanged although the icons on the menu bar and in the status
bar immediately indicate that the document has an unsaved change.

I have also tried the 'fill format mode' to change the page style. I
cannot get that to work either but it also results in Writer thinking
the document has an unsaved change.

During a few dozen tries on the 2 operating systems, I was able to get
the double-click method to work a couple of times but have been
completely unable as yet to determine why those two times succeeded and
the others did not.

The only reliable method I have found is to use the Insert > manual
break > page break and then select the new page style. This inserts a
new page of the style I want; I copy the contents off the original page
and paste into the new page. Finally I delete the unwanted page with the
old style. This is a bit laborious but works well.

I did a quick search to see if this is a known bug but didn't find anything.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Philip

You will need to select one or more paragraph styles to suit your work
and then modify the styles to give the spacing you want.

For example, expose the sidebar on the right hand side of the screen
(View > Sidebar), expose the 'Styles and Formatting' panel in the
sidebar (click the second icon down on right hand edge of the sidebar -
looks like a little flame).

Expose the paragraph styles by clicking the left hand icon of the row of
small icons at the top of the styles and formatting panel.

Right click on one of the paragraph styles you are using and select
'modify'. In the dialogue box which opens, select the 'indents and
spacing' tab and there you can set the spacing above and below your
paragraph as you would wish.

You can make a 101 other adjustments on the various tabs. When you are
done, click on 'apply' or 'ok' and these changes will be automatically
applied to all paras of that type in your document.

Repeat for all paragraph styles you are using to achieve the coherent
flow you seek. If some parts of your document require particular
treatment, you can easily create a new paragraph style.

[libreoffice-users] Cannot open an encrypted basic library -> 100% CPU

2017-09-06 Thread Frédéric Bron
I have changed from Fedora 25 to Fedora 26 and I want to reinstall my
LibreOffice Basic libraries. It works fine with the unencrypted ones.
But it fails for the encrypted one.

Here is what I do:
Menu Tools/Macros/Manage Macros/LibreOffice Basic/Manage/Libraries/Import.../
Then I select the script.xlb of the encrypted macro.
I click on Open and then I can see the Library name with a tick in
front of it. I do not check Insert as reference or Replace existing
libraries. I just click on OK.
I enter the password.
Then nothing happens and soffice.bin is using 100% CPU.
I have to kill it.

Here is the output in the terminal:
$ libreoffice --calc

'GTK_IS_CONTAINER (container)' failed
(soffice:8103): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to measure available space:
