If I may make one comment (as a native English speaker): Activation codes is
perhaps an unhappy choice of words. Activation codes normally indicates to a
user that this is a code to unlock a trial version of a program, which we know
is not the case with OpenOffice

That was simply the thread subject. What I am talking about here (i.e.,
packaging the installer in a way that is accepted by Windows and Mac OS

I click to open or create a document, I'm invited to update
Office and why did I have to spend money for 2

There are sites that charge for something that's free.
