What is happening these days concerning the amendments to the UPLR/FPLA to
allow metric only labeling?
As the year approaches its end, how many more states will allow metric only
labeling as of 2001-01-01? When can we expect the FPLA to be amended to
allow metric only nationally?
Chris,
I wouldn't go after CNN too harshly. Compared to The Weather Channel,
MSNBC, NY Times, etc, they are the BEST of the US broadcasters.

I've just e-mailed CNN to complain that, not only do they use
Fahrenheit in their non-USA forecasts, but it is more prominent than
Celsius.

Here is a Europe Temperature map in degrees Celsius only:

But, if you go to: http://www.cnn.com/WEATHER/eu/Germany/DresdenETDN.html
you will see both degrees Fahrenheit (first) followed by degrees Celsius
with both of equal font. But,

Yeah, CNN put the SI first and the FFU in parentheses:

Is local time in Austria only one hour ahead of CUT? If so, then their time
calculation is wrong. They have 0730 h (GMT) as 9:30 am local time. I

'Big machines' programme on today seemed to be totally metric but I am
not sure about the quote for tyre pressures in kilograms per squatre
centimetre. Are these the normal units ?
Good point, John! I'm glad to see continued interest in this. My
semester ends after the first several days in December and my plans are
to work on sending queries out to those states who have not yet adopted
that amendment. Again, I will propose to the USMA president that we make
this a joint
You may wish to read what I wrote to Bon-Aire Industries, Inc., blind

purchased used those units.
I suspect that it is actually a direct conversion of pounds (mass) to
kilograms and square inches to square centimeters. This is
To all,
I was seeking information about the Yukon Territory for another reason and I
found this "metric conversion" program!

I've been using the claim that 96% of the world's population uses
metric for some time. I've been asked to 'validate' it. I believe it
was from someone in USMA that I got that figure. Can someone confirm
it please? Is it simply the population of the world outside the USA?

Thanks, Chris! Perhaps there are folks in Australia who might be willing to contact
them as well. (Though you'd think feedback from the CNN folks covering the Olympics in
Sydney might have filtered down to them! ;-)

US auto tires give the pressure in kPa in first position with psi or PSI in
parentheses. This seems to be one of the few areas we are ahead of the world
in using SI units. However, no one here pays the slightest attention to
them--virtually everyone refers to tire pressure in "pounds" or "pounds
