The stock swingarm and rim will hold most 170s. I am working on bracing and notching my swingarm, actually bending the tubing tonight. Most wider V-max rims typically 17x5.5 or 17x6.0 have approximately 10mm offset to the right for shaft drive bikes. Paul, 85 V-max, VMOA 1141.

Larry,
The procedure for checking the valves is outlined in the service
manual. You can determine TDC by using the flywheel marks, (there are
two .. 70 degrees apart of course), or since you have the valve
cover(s) off anyhow it is quite easy to see when each set of valves is
sitting on the
One way to tell if the boost is working is roll out, shift in to second,
position the throttle about half way to the stop and hold it there.
Watch the tach as it sweeps past 6000, you should feel a big surge as if
you opened the throttle al the way. But dont move the throttle. If you

comparable Vmax if you get left you got problems but seriously it is quite
noticable from 6000 on you get a serious rush of speed.

I would tell your dealer to take a hike ... The "list" price for a

Not good news, possibly a cracked head. One of the water jackets has

Just for the record, the stock V-max tire is 6 inches (150mm) not 7 inches (175mm) Some 170 series tires will fit in the stock swingarm with no modifications, some require the spacer swap. A 8 inch tire is 200mm and will not fit regardless. Damn metric system. Later, Paul 85 V-max, VMOA 1141.
