as the other guys said--- the v.boost should be audable when you turn on the
ignition/kill switch, and you should notice how slipprey the seet becomes at
6000rpm.......
     UNLESS,,, your max is a UK model registered beetween 91 and 96 thease
bikes are ristricted to 100 horse power and dont have v.boost fitted.
if your in the UK this maybe your problemb,  if not go back to the manual and
checkout the section about adjustment of the v.boost.
