Does VNC 3.3.6 look for iplist.txt to prevent unauthorized IP's from access?
I made that file just like for 3.3.3, placed it in the System32 folder,
(which is in the Path statement), the Realvnc folder, and even the Winvnc
subfolder, but I'm still able to gain access using IP's not allowed
Yup, sure, that's an alternative but it's only reliable in about 10%
of cases I encountered. Reasons can be :
1) Telephone line is already used for Internet connection :-)
2) Local telephone communication isn't free, so you'd better talk quickly
3) I'd done several times of interventions

Ben,
The Microsoft-specified rule for placing icons in the Program Files

Obviously, not everyone follows that rule, and it doesn't always make
sense, but it's usually OK.

VNC has never used an iplist.txt file. IP-address based access control
is managed for WinVNC by setting the AuthHosts registry key, as
described at http://www.realvnc.com/winvnc.html#4.

I am in the process of using VNC to admin/support the computers at a remote

It is, but it isn't really a very good one. like the RFC 1918 addresses, it is not
internet routable. it is fine on a lan though. It is
The Wscript object is installed with the newer versions of IE (5 and above i
think), and you can also get an installer to install it seperately if you
wish.
Going up to msdn.microsoft.com and doing a search i came up with this
snippet to write the regsitry.

No title bars sounds like you have no window manager running.
Check the .vnc/xstartup. By default, it starts twm; you may want to change
this to mwm.
Alternatively, for Solaris only, point .vnc/xstartup to /usr/dt/bin/Xsession:

only thing I can think of is making sure you start your server with a
correct fontpath and I use a font server on Sun as that was the only way to
get the CDE fonts to display properly. The server start flag for Sun

A much more likely scenario - especially since dtlogin works - is that
something is running xmodmap in your startup.
Check your startup scripts. You can also try logging in with a failsafe
session, which is supposed to start with a minimal set of

Hi folks,
I'd like to announce the availability of an HP-UX Software Distributor
package for RealVNC 3.3.6:

I've been using this build for several weeks and have done basic testing

Very True, scheduler is involved. Actually, I got it fixed and the
scripts all ran last night with no problems. Thanks for your help:all.
i'm using the 'net stop winvnc option.

Yes, and probably yes. Old versions of VNC misbehaved when there were more
than 2 keysyms per key. In addition, if you are using keycodes in your

Yup, that's the one, and I have the service stopped on my PC's as well. It's
that for Windows and Samba equipped Unix it's there and easy to enable and

I recall restarting a remote machine (probably a Win98 machine) and being
able to use VNC to reconnect to the remote machine (after allowing enough
time for it to reboot) and logon. If I simply logoff or restart the current
user on a remote Win2K machine VNC disconnects and I cannot reconnect to
I often simply start Notepad and type my chat message there. The remote
machine can also type into the application which I can read. I usually
disable the message service.

Yes. If VNC is running as a service on the remote machine it will restart
when the machine restarts. Then you should be able to login again. Sounds
like it's running as an app on the w2k machine.
