Thank you for all this information Janice. I have a question perhaps you
can answer. How in the world can the city 'buy' the land they want to annex
for only 250. an acre when land is easily going for 3000. an acre out in the
country.
My husband and I were joking

Recently, I heard Mayor Miller and Eric Sorenson talk on a radio talk show
regarding the possible annexations in Wilson Township. I
would just like to clarify a few misconceptions that I heard.
1. Mayor Miller stated that the Wilson Township Supervisors are doing a

Might be. I'll get back to you on that after I look up the latest census

I urge any residents of Wilson who possibly can to attend the meeting
tonight about your annexation issue.
In my opinion this has already gone farther than it ever should have. At
the very least shouldn't the residents be given the option of voting yes or
no to being

I too would like to encourage the tax payers of Winona to attend the City Hall
meeting tonight. Two developers are requesting the City expedite their
requests to annex. Neither development abutts the city limits. The developers

Thanks, Phil, for that description of Met Council
activiites and how development has been occuring in the 7+ county metro
area.
We have an advantage in Winona, I think. The
'MUSA' area is also, in the long run, the city limits (except for
Goodview). That is our

I just want to express my appreciation for Keith

to provide detailed reasoning and examples from the
City perspective is helpful.
Below I think he states two basic things I know I felt

A simple question for an emotional issue:
Why do you think it is necessary for the City to show the township a need for
annexation? The financial risk of land development is primarily on the landowner. The
landowner will have to show the need to their bank. That
might not like to admit it, but
it's true.

I'm curious if there has ever been a study done to determine the indirect cost associated with residents that reside in townships on cities i.e. city services such as roads and parks? How much of my city/county tax dollars go to subsidize those that live in Wilson
be made with care even when you look at similar localities.
Nevertheless, some findings maybe enlightening.

There is an assumption that everyone in and outside the city places a
value on parks, libraries and swimming pools. That those outside the
city are leaching off city taxpayers. Value is a perspective of those
who use such services and want others to share in the cost

I cannot let my friend Chuck Dillerud's buried jargon go unchallenged.

The Wilson Township annexation issue has heated up. Sounds like an issue
that many have strong opinions on.
In 1986 we moved from the city out to Gilmore Valley. The woods and the
large lots for houses were the main reasons for the move. Then a couple of
