At this point I'm reverting to 15.10 so will need to continue this
experiment a few months from now. Apache 2.4.21 was working and five hours
or so into running stopped. It was wedged in some manner that even killing
all the processes and restarting wouldn't fix. A reboot did but

variable which I don't remember any more and caused quite a similar

Even LXDE doesn't work right, comes up in 600x800 resolution and even
if I set to 1680x1050 it won't change, even after logout and back in.

Actually it went away and then came back, so lxde is working only Mate
is broken which sucks because that's what I am used to using.

With lxde I initially get a small version of the lxde desktop then
it also exits.

Knowledgeable human assistance, not telephone
After upgrading Ubuntu 15.10 to Ubuntu 16.04, I can no longer connect
using x2go. Trying to use either mate or kde, it appears to try to start
and then aborts and goes back to the login prompt. I upgraded x2go server
and all x2go software to the most recent on the server side, no help.
