good. I pulled the modeline info from the source code and specified
the 60Hz one and that looks good.

The VGA driver you are trying to use only supports depth 1 and 4,
which is why it is failing. There may be better support for this
chip in newer XFree86 versions so that you don't have to revert
to the plain VGA driver.

1) Upgrade to XFree86 4.3. While this chip is supposed to be supported
in 4.2, I have reports that many
This doesn't look like a monitor issue. It looks like the
SIS driver isn't starting because there is a kernel component missing
(related to the DRI). Perhaps if you commented out loading of
the dri module in the XF86Config, it might fix that problem.
