The register pointers are dword pointers. The register offsets
are byte offsets. They are written as VALUE/4 so that I can grep
for VALUE.

Well, gee, Mike... You're question was filled with negative
assumptions about why the driver might be 'obfuscated'. You
shouldn't take offense if Mark is a little short with you.
Focus on asking a question, leaving off the insinuations, and
you'll get

JB can anyone plz tell me what devices does Xfbdev(and Xipaq)

Mike, I really can't imagine how symbolic names would help you

Hmm, that should only happen if XTTInLibXFont is turned on.

I agree that with hex values the driver is much harder to read and
debug (as a casual developer). that's part of the reason the radeon
driver is so well developed and feature-rich. however, I'd say that
most drivers in xfree86 use hex values rather than symbolic names so
symbolic names are

Hello All,
I posted this earlier but I didn't know the server could handle
attachments so I didn't send anything. I'm attaching my log and config
file this time. Again the situation is I'm trying to run XFree86 4.3.0
from my Redhat 9 install on a Compaq Presario.
Will it ever work. Is there a way that it can already work?
Thanks,
Ray

Hello everybody!
A week ago I've bought a Sapphire Radeon 9000 Atlantis that is powered
by ATI Radeon 9000 and I'm getting crazy to make it work properly on Linux!
After trying the fglrx drivers from ATI website for Linux (that didn't
work),
I've noticed that XFree86 has problems to make the

Hi,
The XFree86 is 4.2.0 on a Linux/i386 machine ...
The first question is the following : (as far as I know) a key may
generate up to eight KeySyms ... the first four elements of the list are
split into two groups of KeySyms and are accessible as : Key /
Shift-Key / Mode_switch-Key /
Hello!
I'm a beginner with XFree86 and Linux. I've tried
to install Linux (seems to be successfull), but
I can't start the XFree.
It doesn't work after I've installed the Nvidia
driver for my card from nvidia.com.
Could you verify what's wrong?
The log file has been attached.

Best regards,
I'm running XFree86 4.3.0 on Mandrake Linux 9.1. My
graphics card is a Radeon 9200. The motherboard is a
Soyo Black Dragon KT400 with VIA kt400 chipset.
I'm using the Radeon fglrx drivers from
shroeder-digital.de for this version of XFree86. For
some reason, DRI would not load. A post on Usenet
I know that several non-XFree origanizations maintain databases of
monitors, to help autoconfigure XF86Config for various third party
installation procedures.
What are these lists and who maintains them? Who do I send data
on my non listed monitor to? Does XFree keep such a list?
Thank You.

I don't know of an XFree86 monitor database. It's not really
a good solution to the problem (doesn't scale well). Monitor
identification based on EDIDs (plug and play info gathered through
the video card's I2C bus) is preferable.
Mark.

Hi,
I've installed RH9 in my PC succesfully. I've used for about 5 days, and
suddenly this morning (10-Nov-2003) it said that X Server failed to start.
I've tried to use redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig , but it didn't fix
anything. Then i tried to replace /etc/X11/XF86Config with
