I wonder how can I change the resolution of the screen ? Well, if I
have several modes defined in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, I can switch between
these mode by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Plus or Ctrl-Alt-Minus. But I would need
to do it within a script, is there a way to do so ?

If the monitor is a sync-on-green monitor you'll need a card
capable of outputting sync-on-green (NVIDIA cards will not), or
you'll need an external box which puts the sync-on-green. They're
not difficult to make if you have some remedial electronics skills.
