[delicious-discuss] Recommendations

2005-07-03 Thread John Abbe

So what's with the recommendations links that don't show anything yet?

E.g. http://del.icio.us/johnabbe/facilitation?recommended

I just joined the list, but i scanned through the June archives and
saw nothing about this...

[delicious-discuss] Suggestions

2005-07-03 Thread Michael Gibson

-
I was thinking of
something like John Abbes venn diagram idea, but much simpler and with
no flash involved: each tag/bundle would have a tick-box next to it, which
would show/hide the bookmarks in that category (of course with an all/none
checkbox at the top). You could then quickly show as many or few categories as
needed. You could also have an AND/OR thing but that might complicate it a bit.
is everyone getting what I mean here? No offence to Johns idea
but I think delicious should be kept as simple as possible and definitely free
of flash

-
It would be good to be
able to list the bookmarks in alphabetical order or by other criteria, not just
by date added

-
Some kind of rating
system, to rank which users have the best/most viewed bookmark lists,
crossreferenced by tag, would be great

-
Itd be good to
have a personal bookmark section only accessible by the account
owner or by granting permission to particular users- for example I would use it
to bookmark my routers IP 172.16.0.1 which Im sure no-one else is
interested in seeing. Im sure people would use it to bookmark other *ahem* sites as well

-
Dont know if this
has already been suggested, but itd be good to have a searchable forum
on the website to replace this discussion group, cos it would encourage the
community to grow and make it easier to track suggestions (for example,
Ive just joined this list and am hardly gonna trawl through months of
archives to check if the above ideas have already been suggested.)

Otherwise, congratulations Joshua on creating this
excellent tool, Ive tried a few similar things but Ive just
discovered this and it beats them all- Im sure when the features are
more fully developed del.icio.us has the potential to become as all-powerful as
google!

On each tag result page, add a link for formats w/ this tag, listing
each media type.
On the media view page, add a link to the feed, and just name it podcast.
More advanced users can still hack the url...

[delicious-discuss] Two-circle venn equivalent (was Suggestions)

2005-07-03 Thread John Abbe
Title: Two-circle venn equivalent (was
Suggestions)

At 8:59 PM +0100 on 7/3/05, Michael Gibson typed:

tick-box next to it, which would show/hide the bookmarks in that

then quickly show as many or few categories as needed. You could also
have an AND/OR thing but that might complicate it a bit. - is
everyone getting what I mean here?

Nope, but it doesn't sound like it addresses what i'm after. I
suggest drawing a picture. Here's mine:

The user selects the geek and art bundles
from the menus over boxes 1 and 3 (2 and 4 adjust automatically). Each
box lists the tags in the bundle(s) indicated. One or more items can
be selected in any one box. Clicking on an arrow moves the selected
items to the corresponding box (i.e., the tags of the selected items
are edited).

This is equivalent to a two-circle venn diagram. You could go
two-and-a-half venn by adding a bundle menu to box 4 - selecting a
bundle there further restricts the tags listed therein.

Obviously, this could be done through the API. Any takers? Oh
wait, is there an API for bundles !?

Same interface with tags bookmarks rather than bundles
tags would also be quite nifty.

No offence to John's idea but I think
delicious should be kept as simple as possible and definitely free of
flash

None taken - to me it's a given that Flash is a *bad* idea,
lacking some truly compelling reason. That's why i started exploring
alternatives.

- Don't
know if this has already been suggested, but it'd be good to have a
searchable forum on the website to replace this discussion group, cos
it would encourage the community to grow and make it easier to track
suggestions (for example, I've just joined this list and am hardly
gonna trawl through months of archives to check if the above ideas
have already been suggested.)

A wiki or something wiki-like would be nice - a page for each tag
would let categorization nuts argue about what tags mean. I thought of
this from looking at http://topicexchange.com/, which i
recently realized del.icio.us completely replaces.

I wouldn't shut down this mailing list, just encourage people to
cross-post stuff worth saving.

Life,
John
