I guess the problem is that David is using smpatch (our automated patching
system )
So in theory he is up to date on his patches
( he has since removed

# zfs umount tank
cannot unmount 'tank': not currently mounted
# zfs umount /export/home1
# zfs umount /export/home
#
in order to get zpool destroy to run
