i have a linux gateway with 5 machines behind it... i switched to iptables...
however, now eth0 seems to be dropping every few hours. is therre someway i can tell if it's my eth0 dying or roadrunner dropping me because they are evil? my log says something like: named no longer listening on eth0 when i try "network restart", i get a new ip address, but then my log says stuff about martians. i don't get this! who comes up with this stuff? at that point, i get a new ip address, i go to my dynamic dns site, update all my sites. but they can't be accessed because apparently "martian" means i got assigned an ip address that isn't valid on the roadrunner network, so nobody can get to me. so i have to reboot my server and everyone gets upset. then, i end up getting back my original ip address, going back to the dyn dns site and re-entering everything again! what happened to the shorter work week? i swear, we were better off tilling fields... at least, in the middle ages, we had a 4-day work week, and stopped working when the sun went down. capitalism... vora > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of scan > Sent: Saturday, October 04, 2003 11:09 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: RE: port forwarding > > > hi. > > what do you have? a single computer with a modem or cable connection or a > smal network behind your internet connection? > > andreas > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of vvor > > Sent: Thursday, October 02, 2003 1:27 PM > > To: Linux > > Subject: port forwarding > > > > > > hi, > > i have seawolf, and i am using ipchains and would prefer to > > continue using them > > because they are working. > > > > i would like to forward packets hitting my gateway on a specific > > port to an > > internal lan machine's matching port. can this still be done on a > > 2.4 kernel > > with ipchains?i am getting the usual "autofw: setsockopt failed: Invalid > > argument". i've seen people with those errors post all over > > google, but no one > > can say anything but "use iptables", and they are really really > > glib about it. > > > > how, if not, can i convert my ipchains to iptables in a standard > > way without > > spending 7 days learning that in fact i didn't have to reinvent the wheel? > > > > sorry if i'm cranky, but i'm a musician, not a sysadmin, and i > > wanna get back to > > that asap. things should just work. > > > > vvvv > > > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > > Seawolf-list mailing list > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/seawolf-list > > > > > _______________________________________________ > Seawolf-list mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/seawolf-list _______________________________________________ Seawolf-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/seawolf-list
