Dave, I had the same problem with my 86 GLHS.. It was a major handful under boost!!

It ended up being the one of the pivot bolts on the control arm
which had a loose nut... I put the biggest impact wrench I could find on all
the bolts in the suspension and one of them turned about
one full turn.. I didn't think that was the problem but I took it
out and it now drives GREAT!!

I doubt it's the rack... Do you have the "morning sickness" problem.
I do but it's not a big deal when you compare it to changing the rack... ;-)

Subject: SD> Steering rack?

As I've written before, under high boost, WOT, fourth or fifth gear
conditions, my Omni glht will pull me off line, to either side. It feels like
I have lost control of my steering. I can hardly correct it, unless I get off
the gas. Is it possible my steering rack could be worn out? A good friend told
me these may be the symptoms of worn out worm gears in the steering rack. All
suspension parts are near new, and tight, and I have gone to near stock wheel
alignment settings. Also...does anyone have experience with shimming their
steering rack?
