Pure water is an excellent solvent.
Membranes are intelligent and selective reverse osmosis filters that purify water as it goes in so it can carry impurities out. If it DOESN'T dissolve minerals that have reacted with *whatever* and done their jobs, you are stuck with all those nasty used up minerals and no new ones will have room to get in...you have stopped a natural cycle.

A solvent carries things BOTH ways.
Nature hates both a vacuum and a pressure.

It doesn't matter if the water you drink is distilled or not, your membranes will purify it as best they can so it [and associated mechanisms] can transport mineral nutrients from food also at that interface.....if anything, a little help in that area won't hurt a thing.
There might be a little bit less crap in your crap is all.
If there are minerals in the input water as well as in the food, the best ones will be selected, as needed and the rest passed on. My bet, most of them will come from the food ....and in the absence of minerals in the water, All of them will come from the food.

Now, if your input is less than the output because you are starving, leeching may become a problem...but impure water input is still selectively purified by the membranes even if there's nothing there to carry in with it.

IOW Your body isn't STUPID...it's quite well designed to adapt.
If this were not so, everybody who has a green or blue stain in the sink from a dripping faucet..wouldn't have a functioning nerve left in that body.

Not sure what you're all on about so I'll just butt in here with my two bobs worth, if I'm off track just hit the delete button.

I spoke with a water treatment bloke many moons ago about DW and EIS/CS that I make and ingest and he told me one can't drink DW as one would drink ordinary water...because it lacks minerals etc it will leach them from the body, eventually one will feel decidedly unwell. Not a problem in what I do with DW, only if one drinks it as they would, or instead of, ordinary water.

Again, if this is not relevant to what you're all on about, then ignore it.

I appreciate the feedback about Mercola.

With regard to my original question though, does anyone have any input/science regarding any danger with distilled water as Mercola outlines it?...any veracity, do you think, to his article? Possibly in large quantities, for someone using DW to hydrate and nothing much else...but for our purposes, I kind of doubt it.

Have a happy,
John

I'm forwarding this provocative article for feedback.

I found the article of particular interest for those of us who make our own CS from distilled water...from any source.

A total dissolved PM reading, on a PPM scale may not indicate any VOCs or DBPs as the article states (which are dangerous at PPB levels). But, then, we're not typically swigging glassfulls of CS a day either.

Any thoughts? thanks, and have a happy!!
