I figured out my issue. I was running a 4.0 server and a 3.6
client ... doesn't work really well :). I am all up and running now and it
works great

Yes, you need a /etc/systemconfig/systemconfig.conf in your image, and
it looks something like this:

CONFIGRD = YES

DEFAULTBOOT = 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp
