        Boxing Day

Indeed it is!

After the bustle of Christmas, the List is going to put its feet up and
enjoy this holiday, come what may. However, some of its gentle members
might be in a bit of a fog about Boxing Day, especially if its not
celebrated in their own country, or even if it is.

"Few Americans have any inkling that there even is such a thing as Boxing
Day, let alone what the reason might be for a holiday so named. However,
before one concludes we're about to rag on Americentric attitudes towards
other cultures, we should quickly point out that even though Boxing Day is
celebrated in Australia, Britain, New Zealand, and Canada, not all that
many in those countries have much of a notion as to why they get the 26 of
December off. Boxing Day might well be a statutory holiday in some of those
lands, but it's not a well understood one." - from the website

After an exhaustive search, this single entry at the famous snopes.com site
proved to be the very best examination of the origins of the Boxing Day
holiday, observed in many English-speaking countries but sadly, not in the
U.S.

surrounding its origins at:

The List thanks all its gentle members who took the time to send cheery
Yuletide greetings at this busy time of year.
