It's not a waste, if somebody wants to do it, let him to do it.
Perhaps he don't want or can not contribute in any other way
and, perhaps, some users will find these packages helpful.

Make your own priorities and get them done.

Yes, this is correct. I don't like this situation too.
However, ODBC backend is not ready to be called stable.

Please note that SOCI is not a wrapper around ODBC.
