Hi, We are running soci with a patch which includes your feature request.
The patch enables the usage of boost::posix_time::ptime to be directly stored and retrieved from oracle as timestamp _including_ fractional seconds. The patch only works for oracle since we don’t hold a postgres installation. Apply the patch to the git sources as of Sep 9th as available from sourceforge. Please find the patch attached. Please feel free to include the patch into the general soci release, if you plan to do so. This would be problematic, as there is no "internal" type that has more precision than std::tm. The only reasonable option that I can see for the moment is to use text format for transmission and appropriate conversion at the client-side. This is basically the general way of solving "unsolvable" typing problems in SOCI. If you need high performance of data transfer and text format is a problem, then the only option is to extend the set of internal SOCI types, so that timestamps can be handled with higher precision natively.
