You can use fun toys like this one to calibrate the lm-sensors output: http://www.amazon.de/dp/B001FWT1NY/ Run md5sum < /dev/zero, watch the temperature rise, point and click repeatedly, tweak /etc/sensors.conf until the two thermometers agree.
