Dear Dave, I hope you can remember me. I'm happy to know that the live steam digest is going to continue. I've always enjoyed the live steam aspect of model railroading. I can't remember how I was registered before when Ron handled the digest. I always thought Ron was a great person and we hit it off well. I could have been "Arthur---Mexico City" with my email address or my password for identification. I'm sure that my old identification name and information, as required, would still be available. You can fill me in on that.
Unfortunately the TSA in the airports don't allow me to carry one of my steam engines aboard a plane so I have not attempted to carry one with me and have it confiscated. Without an engine to run why that makes attending the conventions sort of a lost cause. Of course I enjoy all the friends I made but the real things are the friends and the running of your own live steam locomotive. You know the feeling. To ship a live steam locomotive by one of the commercial carries to the States and back is no end of paper work and costs. So "things" become impractical. I want to advertize for sale some rolling stock I have, track, turnouts, track clamps, and other "stuff" I have from a garden setup I used to have that was replaces by a single elevated track for the three live steam locomotives I still own. And two of those are for sale. The locomotives and cars are all LGBs with all of them brand new in their original boxes and some with sleeves. I have new and used track. Used means "was installed, weathered, but not used". About all the switches need new motors as they don't weather well. How do I go about putting a small ad in the journal and on the web page listing my email address for information on what I want to sell?. I can't even remember if I have a paid up subscription for the Steam in the Garden magazine. So let me know. I hope this letter finds you well and not losing too much money in Vegas. Arthur Arthur S. It's been a great 10 months working with many of you to put together the print magazine and I hope those of you who are subscribers have enjoyed what we've been doing. Additionally, behind the scenes, I've been building out a new web site for the magazine. We were able to convince Richard Finlayson to give up his ownership of the domain name "steamup.com" (thank you Richard!) and starting today, the new site is officially launched at http://www.steamup.com/. Steamup.com is the magazine on the web -- plus so much more. Here are just a small number of features the new site includes: *An e-edition of the magazine. For those overseas who have found the cost of the magazine prohibitive -- or for those who don't need any more paper in their homes -- there is now an electronic edition of the magazine. The e-edition includes every page from the printed magazine, displayed on your computer screen with "flipping book" technology, which allows you to page through the magazine much like you would a print publication and enlarge the pages to more than twice normal size in order to read it. Subscribers who purchase the digital plan have access to e-editions back to the May/June 2009 issue (No. 105). *Our "web specials" feature brings you selected articles from back issues of Steam in the Garden, back years and years. While there now more than 20 articles available to read online, we expect to be adding a couple of articles a month for the foreseeable future, bringing back the "greatest hits" of Steam in the Garden from over the years. *Exclusive web-only content, including news articles about the latest happenings in the small-scale live steam hobby and columns aimed at helping you have more fun in the hobby. *A "Timetable" feature that includes all the steamups and other live-steam related events. *The Swap Shop is back as an interactive feature. Registered users can post locomotives and other railroad-related items for sale, and include photos of their items too. When the item is sold, the user can easily remove the ad, meaning the list on the site is always current. *An unsurpassed collection of small-scale live steam videos. Hobbyists including Mike Martin, Jim McDavid, David Leech, Scott McDonald, Charles Bednarik and many others have allowed us to post their videos all together in one place, so that you can have an afternoon or evening of watching little live-steam locomotives and trains, from the world over. *Our new forums -- a place where small-scale live steamers can gather to ask questions, exchange information and just blow off some steam. Of course there's so much more -- did I forget to include that you can now buy back issues of the magazine online, seeing tables of contents and cover photos? -- and we have plans to add more features and content in the coming months and weeks. Please take a few minutes to visit http://www.steamup.com/ and be sure to register (only registered users can see the "web specials," and they are the only ones who can participate on the forums or use the Swap Shop). Please feel free to contact me directly about the site if you have any comments, questions or concerns at dmc...@steamup.com. Thanks. \dmc PS: We also don't want to forget our sponsors -- Silver State Trains, Triple R Services, Hartford Products, Aster Hobby USA, National Summer Steamup, Accucraft Trains, Back on Track, MBV Schug and Reindeer Pass Rail -- for helping us fund Steamup.com. I'm still a book and paper guy so won't get drawn totally into the world of electronic communications, though! Still prefer my hardcopies for many things. I really like the option to increase the type size for those of us who need such help! Thanks for doing this Jeff Williams ===== On 10/15/11 2:51 PM, Dave Cole wrote: > SSLiveSteam folks: > > As I'm sure you all know, I took over as editor of Steam in the > Garden back in January.
