.To do utmost for Vietnam-Iraq ties: PM

Vietnam and Iraq have special relations which have been tested in the wars
for national defence and Vietnam will do its utmost for this special
sentiment, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai said in Hanoi on June 11.

Receiving Iraqi Trade Minister Mohamed Mehdi Saleh who is heading a
delegation to attend a session of the Vietnam-Iraq Inter-Governmental Joint
Commission in Hanoi, PM Khai thanked the Iraqi President and people for
their good sentiment toward Vietnam. "Once being blocked by embargo, Vietnam
deeply understands Iraq's difficulties," Mr Khai stressed, adding that he
believed the undaunted people of Iraq would overcome all difficulties and
challenges.

Mr Khai informed the Iraqi guests of Vietnam's socio-economic achievements
in the on-going renovation process, and introduced Vietnamese farm produce
including rice, edible oil, and tea - all of which Vietnam can supply to
Iraq under the "Oil for Food" programme.

He asked Minister Mohamed Mehdi Saleh to convey his best regards to
President Saddam Hussein and affirmed that the strategic friendly
relationship between the two countries would further develop.

The Iraqi minister briefed PM Khai of the results of the meeting of the
Vietnam-Iraq inter-governmental join commission in the morning, stressing
the good results of the two countries' implementation of the 'Oil for Food'
programme. (VNA)
