There's been a lot of discussion about this here. Do a search for "Hubbert" or "Hubbert's" at the archive. I'm a bit sceptical. I also don't think it's very important. Even if the supply was infinite we'd still have to change our ways. The problem with Hubbert's Peak-type thinking is that it leads to the idea that all we need to do is substitute another type of fuel or energy and continue with business-as-usual, dangerous thinking - we HAVE to reduce energy use and increase energy-use efficiency, and decentralise supply, no matter where it comes from. >After reading this item you 'll understand why >current hybrids need to expand their EV ONLY CAPACITY >urgently by expanding the High Voltage battery Pack capacity with a second >grid chargable >cheaper battery pack. More batteries. Hm. Nope. I see what you're saying, but that's a bit like what I said about Hubbert's Peak-type thinking, in a way. That would be more "efficient", yes, but actually it needs fewer batteries, better batteries, longer-lasting batteries, and much better ways of recycling them. >The insight honda is more an electric assisted ICU with a very >airstreamed aluminium body design >while the prius has a built in EV mode for short distances at a speed lower >than >40miles/h or 65km. >The second generation has 20% improved drive train, less friction, >better battery etc. These 300V battery is very expensive ($6000) and is only >partly charged and discharged >for longer life time. > >Several electronic computers which are directing several parts of the car >,are talking to each other . >People try to hack into these communications to try to experiment several >issues. > >The compression /expansion ratio is around 13 which indicates it could be an >excellent >liquified gas LPG or compressed CNG burner. LPG/CNG isn't much of an improvement, if any - cleaner at the tailpipe, but the GGemissions are about the same as any other fossil fuel overall, despite BP's greenwash award-winning "Beyond Petroleum" campaign implying that it's a "green" fuel. http://journeytoforever.org/fyi_previous.html#3012 >However we know out of the theory you need higher compreession ratio's 20... >25 >like in bio-diesel ICU to get good fuel consumption. > >For this reason the ideal drive train I would like to see is the tree >cylinder >VW 1200cc 50HP accepted for biodiesel !!!! Isn't the Lupo accepted for biodiesel? Werner Korbitz of the Austrian Biofuels Institute was just saying he'd been driving one on biodiesel: >>recently I drove in a Volkswagen Lupo through the Austrian >>mountains consuming 76 mpg, - Biodiesel of course. And the ENIGMA uses a specially imported Lupo engine with biodiesel: http://evworld.com/databases/storybuilder.cfm?storyid=312 >Put al this in a insight shaped 4 passenger with aluminium body and you get >a 100miles /gallon biodiesel car which suits >by its extended grid charge EV mode your daily commutes and your occasional >long trips with the BIODIESEL motor, >which can als recharge the battery on the run if necessary. > >It is however as difficult to have EV- ,biofuel-,hybrids- people work >together on a project Yes, but not impossible - the Enigma team at San Diego State University have been doing that. >as it is to have VW,Toyota,Honda think about putting together the best of >their technologies. They do collaborate, to an extent - they all own each other these days anyway. An interesting question is what is going to happen to the development put into diesel hybrids by the PNGV team in the US now that the project has been scrapped. That program was heavily supported by public funds. Does it all go on the shelf, or does it get used? The US government/industry collaboration Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) was intended to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by developing ultra-clean, 80 miles-per-gallon (34 km/litre) "hypercars" without sacrificing comfort, safety or performance, focusing on cleaner and more efficient diesel engines: http://www.ta.doc.gov/PNGV-Archive/default.htm Technology Administration: Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles http://www.ott.doe.gov/hev/background.html Hybrid Electric Vehicles: Program Background http://www.ott.doe.gov/hev/related.html Hybrid Electric Vehicles: Related Links http://www.ott.doe.gov/hev/ Hybrid Electric Vehicles Best Keith >So sit it out... > >greetings ------------------------ Yahoo!
