What's truly amazing about Sell's phenomenal finish in the WC marathon is that he's not that fast (for the shorter distance) relative to so many other elite runners.
>From the Hansons web site: http://www.hansons-running.com/odp/profile/sell.htm Sell's PRs are: 3000m 8:07.11 (02) 5000m 13:59.25 (02) 10000m 28:36.56 (02) Sell ran for St. Francis College/University in Loretto, PA. He was 42nd or thereabouts for the NCAA championships in XC his senior year. This was the only time he qualified. As a track man, he did make the NCAA final in the 10,000 - but didn't contend. Sell did great today; he's been doing great for the past few years getting stronger and stronger. I am so thrilled for him - and excited about his finish and excellent performance. I can't help but wonder where are the 41 guys who beat him in the NCAA cross country race? Where are the rest of the U.S. runners that can break 14:00 for a 5,000 - but aren't around? Sell is not the most talented long distance runner in the U.S. He's certainly training very smart; and getting top notch performances when it counts. I'm a huge Sell booster. I just can't figure out why more aren't willing to work like Sell who are more talented. Hopefully this can motivate others to do what it takes!
