I'm running Ubuntu Hardy, and I was able to get the gui to load and render the sample map, but I was not able to get any of the three shading methods to work. All three gave me "CodePage 437 not supported" errors. (I'm not sure what that means.) Kosmos.Console.exe was able to tilegen the sample project without any problems. Very nice work, Igor!
