Similar problem here. I installed the daily-live 20081009: Installation
went fine, first boot was okay, I also got to the login screen, but when
I logged in, the computer froze with a black screen while loading Gnome:
The mouse pointer was still there and movable, but the rest did not
work: no switching to tty, no killing X... Same problem with failsafe
Gnome, Xterminal session works, though. Login on tty works, as well.
Unfortunately, I couldn't save /var/log/Xorg.0.log ...
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 1100
lspci says: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation
82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)
