It was Xubuntu 8.04.1 for me too. It wasn't a fresh install however (sorry, I stated that it was above), but an install of 'xubuntu- desktop'. It seemed to be missing all the required dependencies, such as 'ubuntu-docs'. 'xubuntu-docs' installs, but apparently that's not all I need.
