I've been using the workaround of running setxkbmap automatically after login 
for a long time without problems. Perhaps this workaround can be implemented as 
an update for hardy, and the real Xorg fix remain in Intrepid? 
I think it really make no sense that an LTS release won't be usable out of the 
box for anyone with an extra keyboard layout.
