KAMPALA - The British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, is expected to attend an international convention in the UK on 2006 governance.
The convention slated for April 3, at Thornton Health Leisure Centre in London, is organised by Uganda National Federal Union (Unafu).

According to a press statement signed by the Unafu Secretary for International Relations, Mr William Katongole, the objective of the convention is to determine whether the constitutional changes taking place will lead to adoption of national federalism, human rights and good governance in Uganda.

Resolutions on how Uganda should be governed before and after President Yoweri Museveni’s regime will be discusseed and a programme proposed should Museveni and his diehards impose unwanted constitutional amendments.

“The convention is so special because it is going to discuss and map out the actual strategies of Uganda’s 2006 leadership quest,” the statement read in part.

Participants will discuss what type of federalism Uganda is engaging in.
“Unafu disassociates itself and is opposed to the type of decentralisation (tier) authorised by Museveni to Buganda Kingdom because it was ‘hot air’. The matter will be debated and we hope that the type of real federalism to be adopted will be resolved,” the statement stated.

Mr Michael Howard of the British Conservative Party, former Ugandan President, Godfrey Binaisa, DP President, Dr Paul ssemogerere, FDC’s Mugisha Muntu and Chapaa Karuhanga, Unafu coordinator and member of the Justice Forum, Mr Emmanuel Oketcho and Lubaga South MP, Mr Ken Lukyamuzi, are also expected to attend the convention.
