Hi

I was wondering if it really is nessacery to fully install perl into the C drive soley for the purpose of installing the various applications.

I'm not saying not to use perl, but is there no way to use perl from the Z mapped drive? (I do know there might be some issues with perl not beeing on the C:\ which I think can't be right. It's just not sane :) but who knows.

[ reasons why]

My proposal would be to have perl live in z:\perl and have all scripts use that version. The bat files include a 'header' file that set's enviroment variables correctly so that perl can be run from Z:\perl.

This would also make it possible to simply install a package by running the script file for it.

I think the question is:

When a patch is supplied, will it be excepted?

Accepted or expected? : )

Accepted, but read on.

Accepted, I don't know. If the sysadmin wants perl on every install, put perl.bat in your base.bat, it it's not, don't put perl.bat in your base.bat : )

Expected, it might come to a supprise I'm sure, but does it matter for the end result? You'll still get a fully unattended workable win installation.

The Janary second message about having a installed computer without a "perl leftover" was unanswered.

My first impression was "If you think it should change, then make it
possible ( do it or provide funds )" and was about to write
"patches are welcome"

Second thougt was "What is the opion of others here"
so I wrote "When a patch is supplied, will it be accepted?"
with the typ-error.

I'm still curious about the opions about the perl install leftover,
but maybe I just read the fantasic manual as I still didn't.
"Removing perl and other tools after install" seems a FAQ issue to me.
If it really is so. (Oops, now I told that I never did
a unattended install for MS Windows.
I should stayed lurking ;- )

Cheers

all i'm saying is, it isn't a nessecary to pollute a PC with perl, just because the installer needs it. It's like having all these services running that I'll never use anyway. Personally, I don't like that ; ).

Patches, well the first question would be, does perl even run from a different directory. I have heard a while ago perl MUST be in C:\perl. I doubt that perl uses registry settings, so that would be a big plus, also I doubt they use any 'special' dll's So it _should_ be possible. If I can find the answer to this question, as soon as I find some time, I could supply patches : )
