To mount cifs without capital letters here are the some experience:
mount_opts="user=$username,ro,nocase"
...Blablabla
#to use real nocase we have to disable unix extensions before
#first modprobe cifs
modprobe cifs
echo 0 > /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled
#now try to mount
/sbin/mount.cifs "$Z_PATH" /z -o "$mount_opts" > $LOGTTY 2>&1
