In looking at the current examples of Unicode data covering a wide variety of languages, they demonstrate being multilingual but not in a way important to most businesses, or they are a little silly or self-absorbed (about Unicode not about demonstrating a good usage). I am not trying to put down the existing examples, they are valuable for testing and other purposes. I would like to make a favorable impression on people with a slightly more real world example. For example, a database of customer names and addresses would be something most businesses require. So I would like to build a list of celebrity names, each in their native language. I think such a list would be useful to demonstrate a real world multinational requirement. So I would like your help to compile such a list, and then I will post it for all to use. Specifically, I would like to get a name of a well-known celebrity, and their country of origin, in Unicode, and the English transliterations. Native Celebrity Name, Native Country, English Name, English name of country By Celebrity I have in mind singers and movie stars. Please no politicians, government officials, or well-known criminals. I want to make sure none of the names have offensive associations... We can be flexible about both "celebrity" and "country", especially for the more ancient languages... The names should be recognizable, not necessarily to me, but to a native speaker. I think if we had such a list, we can more fully demonstrate the power of Unicode. You can send me the examples privately, please use the above subject heading. I won't have time to comment on people's examples, I'll just collate them and post them periodically.
