thanks for the replies I received today. I have updated the page: http://www.geocities.com/i18nguy/unicode-example.html
For those of you that wanted to help, but couldn't think of a celebrity in some country, you might look at the internet movie database. They have a search of actors by birth country. (Although many of the entries seem to be stars that are now long gone.) For example, this does a search for actors born in Germany: http://us.imdb.com/BornWhere?for=germany You can edit it for other countries and send me your candidates to be added to the list. thanks tex > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: Compelling Unicode demo > Date: Wed, 07 Nov 2001 15:48:33 -0500 > From: "Tex Texin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Organization: the Progress Company > To: Unicoders <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Hi, > > I want to create a demo using Unicode that will have data that is more > representative of a business application, so it will be more compelling > than the Unicode examples I have seen so far. > > In looking at the current examples of Unicode data covering a wide > variety of languages, they demonstrate being multilingual but not in a > way important to most businesses, or they are a little silly or > self-absorbed (about Unicode not about demonstrating a good usage). > > I am not trying to put down the existing examples, they are valuable for > testing and other purposes. > > I would like to make a favorable impression on people with a slightly > more real world example.
